So often it feels like you are all alone in the world. Each challenge, each obstacle seems like you are taking it on all alone. It is easy to feel that way – so often, at the moment you are facing the challenge – you literally are alone. Standing by yourself faced with life’s challenge.
Even one of my favorite quotes – “Each player must accept the cards life deals him or her. But once they are in hand, he or she alone must decide how to play the cards in order to win the game.” (Voltaire) - basically says you are standing alone in dealing with your challenges in life.
Ironically, Voltaire also said – “We are rarely proud when we are alone.” So, evidently, we don’t always make the best decisions when we are alone. Honestly, I would agree with that – wouldn’t you?
There-in lies the rub, we feel like we make decisions and face challenge standing alone – but the reality is that the decisions we make alone don’t really stand the test of our own pride. Our best decision come when we realize that we are not alone. We make our best decisions when we think of the contribution of friends and family.
And honestly, don’t we make our best decisions when we consider the input that friends and family have given throughout our lives - when we think about how they would advise us in the moment of the decision. Don’t get me wrong – considering their input doesn’t always mean following their input.
But, doesn’t even considering their input mean that you have processed your thought, your idea more clearly?
